Religiosity must be killed if we are going to reach this generation and extend Christ to unbelievers. Culture defines so much of people’s lives. The way people are raising their children, choosing entrepreneurship over the job market, choosing their life partners or sexuality, are all heavily influenced by today’s culture. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a time that is even safe for the Motherboard to travel door to door to spread the good news of Jesus and pray with people anymore. We live in a very violent and reactive day of age. We need people that are willing to do what Jesus did and that is, the unorthodox. What if you’re called to do something “unlawful” for the Glory of God? Hold on, Wait! Jesus broke the law?! Yup!! He sure did- more than once, and guess what? He was NOT sorry!
The Pharisees were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus and plot his death because he performed amazing miracles and taught with such authority and wisdom. Jesus, knowing his purpose and who his father is had no problem giving them their reason. As they gathered outside the synagogue he saw a man with a shriveled up hand. Jesus told the man to stand up in front of everyone. Then Jesus asked them “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to kill?” Mark 3:4 He healed that man. Their hearts were so hard they didn’t even respond. Does this sound familiar to you? Religious people are so upset when their rules are broken even if it’s to save souls and add names to the book of life. It’s evident in how people are responding to Kanye West hosting Sunday service. He is a man raised by a strong woman of faith. The word of God has been hidden in his heart long before he started wilding out and living his own will. The word says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, so when he gets old he won’t depart from it.” I’m not surprised that Kanye remembered who he was and surrendered to God. Since God kept elevating him even operating in his own will he now has a platform that displays God’s glory in a way that is mind-blowing! Souls are being saved that would otherwise never have met Jesus because they weren’t coming to church nor do they have praying mothers. God knows what He’s doing and who to use to get His message across.
It’s great to have salvation and not go to hell. My call-to-action is that we truly become followers of Christ. Jesus ate with the sinners and tax collectors and when questioned about it replied “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but the sinners.” Mark 2:17 That’s what I call being the church. Let’s live out our unique purposes and do what God has called us to do. Let’s go be light in the darkness, not just among other lights.
