WORSHIP (RELATIONSHIP) PT. 1

Worship existed before the beginning of time. Before we were even created, God was being worshiped in heaven by angels both day and night. Satan himself once worshiped at the feet of God. I know, I know… that’s hard to imagine, but it’s very true.

See when I think of the word worship, the word relationship always follows. I’ve come to the realization that you can’t have one without the other. See, relationship with God naturally produces worship of HIM. This is why knowing and being in relationship with God is so important when it comes to worshiping God. God is holy, just, perfect, powerful, and loving, just to name a few. And these are all attributes that you learn of God by spending time with Him and in His word. I often tell my worship team, how can we sing a song about God if we don’t know Him. The sad reality is that a lot of people come to church, sing songs about God, and don’t even know why or really know who they’re singing about.

With me being a newlywed, it has helped me understand worship and relationship with God on a whole different level. See because I know and spend time with my wife, I’m able to talk about her to others and even sing about her (lol). There have been times where people will ask about her, and I’ll just go on and on. See the time I spend with her on a daily basis makes me love her more and more. I see the value of my relationship with her and the importance of her being in my life. And it’s that very reason why I praise her so much when people ask or when I’m telling her how much I love and appreciate her. It’s the same with Jesus! The more we spend and talk with him, the more we will see the importance of a relationship with him. It makes us love him more! And by love, we’ll transition from knowing of God to God being our everything. It’s from this place of love that God can truly be worshiped the way it was intended to be.

I want to lastly mention that worship is not something tied up to just the church house. Worship is a lifestyle! I feel when we limit time in God’s presence to just church, then we’re cutting ourselves short. When we have this mindset, we’ll never fully reach that place God wants us to be. My prayer is that we, as God’s children, will see the value of being connected to our father and creator everywhere we go. That’s from school, to work, our homes, etc. Once we learn how to function, interact, and foster our relationships here on Earth, we will learn true worship.

3 Things To Grow In Relationship With God

1. Take it one day at a time! We have to remember this is not an overnight thing. Think of a natural relationship, you never meet someone and just develop this deep life with them. It’s something that has to grow!

2. Make Time! (It’s IMPORTANT) Everyone has their own schedules, and honestly, life can get hectic. But it’s important to remember that God comes first, and should always be included in our day. And that means even if it’s for a couple of mins throughout the day. One thing I did was dedicate at least 10 mins every morning to God. No phone, no tv, no distraction, just me and Jesus. This eventually became a habit to the point where I didn’t feel right not doing it.

3. Grow with others! I can’t even fully express the importance of good Godly community and friends. One thing that has made me grow more with God, is growing with people who also desire to grow deeper in a relationship with Christ. See when there are people growing with you, you’ll always have someone there to push you when you don’t want to read your word, pray, or worship. Having a community is key to being kept accountable. I suggest to everyone that they pray for good strong Godly friends to grow with! This is key in our walk in Christ.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for your love, grace, and mercy. It’s through your son Jesus that we can even be in your presence. So God, let us not miss out on the importance of spending time with you. Because we’ve learned that spending time with you, allows us to get to know you for real. And when we know you for real, we worship you better. Lord, let these words penetrate the hearts of everyone who reads it. Let them be seeds that you water, and a harvest that you grow. All for your glory! In Jesus’ name, we pray, AMEN.
